Accessible yoga for everyone
I teach yoga which offers a fresh and truly accessible approach to yoga. Each class will follow a theme which evolves from my personal research and explorations, so each class builds and develops from the material we covered in the previous week.
Although I’d love to see you each week and there are definite benefits from regular practice, I always take time to carefully explain the focus and what we’re doing in each pose, so you won’t miss out if you can’t make it.
Classes generally follow a similar structure – we begin lying on the floor, to breathe and settle, before gradually building into stronger or more challenging practices and then dropping back down into Savasana to rest at the end.
When I speak of “challenging practices” I’m not referring to pretzel-style poses – my approach to yoga focuses on building depth and awareness in simple positions. We may place our attention on one phase of the breath, or a specific body part or element of our physiology.
Whatever material we cover in class you can expect to:
* Move with more ease and clarity
* Learn approaches to downregulate your nervous system
* Undo and dissolve unnecessary tension
* Enhance your understanding of your body
* Explore your relationship with yourself, and others
* Relax and unwind with restorative breathwork and simple, meditative movement
* Leave feeling refreshed, calm and with a sense of quiet peace
Suitable for everyone with any level of experience, from beginners to those who’ve been practicing yoga for many years.
Yoga may be particularly helpful for those working with long term joint issues, cranky backs, or regular aches and pains and good for stress and sleep issues.

About Catherine Annis
Catherine Annis is well known for her imaginative and practical approach to yoga. In 2017 she created the Intelligent Yoga Teacher Training Course (iytt), an 18 month, anatomically focused teacher training course with world-leading teachers such as Gary Carter.
Originally a professional dancer, she discovered yoga as a teenager, and has been practicing since the mid 1970s. Having studied various styles of yoga including Sivananda, Iyengar, Astanga and various forms of Hatha yoga, she eventually gravitated to the teachings of Vanda Scaravelli.
Catherine’s yoga practice and teaching focuses on strategies for downregulating the nervous system, working with breath and subtle somatic work to soothe the mind and create more physical ease for those working with pain, stress and anxiety. She holds a Masters degree in ballet studies, and is a qualified Thai massage practitioner, and it is this interest in the body which informs and inspires her teaching.
